Beyond Symbol is a series of public dialogues on how reparations for Black communities can move forward at a local level, and the role of arts and culture within the movement. Evanston, IL is set to become the first U.S. city to compensate Black Americans. The first phase of the reparations initiative — funded by tax revenue from the city’s recreational marijuana sales and private donations — is a homeownership assistance program.

Sankofa Conference: The Art of Healing
Inspired by Eva Woolridge's photo series "The Size of a Grapefruit," that was installed at the South Orange Performing Arts Center, The Art of Healing seeks to offer an inclusive, safe, and engaging space to examine and give voice to the disparities, medical negligence, and micro-aggressions that exist for Black Women in their reproductive experiences that are often left unspoken and unaddressed.

"What is Due? A Case for Reparations"
Here we will explore how leaders, artists and organizations in communities of color are organizing around this important topic. As a national conversation about reparations takes root, we will gather a panel of experts to unpack the notion of reparations broadly, examine various forms that reparations might take, and look at concrete examples happening today.
